Casey and his brother, Colin, both have Spinal Muscular Atrophy type 1 which affects their muscles. Colin and Casey cannot hold their heads up or sit unassisted. This also affects their respiratory muscles so the boys have machines that help them breathe.

Casey has a tracheotomy and a ventilator. It's really helped him to be out and about in the community easier, and safer. He is currently mainstreamed in sixth grade. He attends with a nurse. He also has a DynaVox Communication Device and a Communication Facilitator that helps him with his school work. He is very included in all areas of school and he enjoys everything about school, especially the social time! He is working on driving a power chair with a single switch.
